Will adds, “This record has gone from being a fast punk band with theatrical elements to being a lot more rock ‘n’ roll and theatrical, but of course, with flourishes of punk rock here and there.” Yet the emotionally rich narrative – an evocative tale of a doomed romance set on America’s wide-open highways – amplifies the ambition that CREEPER have always exuded. ‘Cyanide’ provides further flavor of what to expect from ‘Sex, Death & The Infinite Void.’ The album as a whole offers a subtle reinvention on the CREEPER sound via more eclectic instrumentation, an apocalyptic cinematic atmosphere and fresh influences from American pop culture. At the point in our album narrative, the characters have fallen into a dangerous, forbidden love. Modern love know no bounds, no rules it can feel like dying a death. “‘Cyanide’ is about obsession,” says Will, “that hopeless feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you fall in love. The song’s central lyric “Modern love can feel like suicide” was inspired by the early Peter Gabriel track ‘Modern Love’, with Gould applying the idea to both the new album’s narrative and his own personal experiences. Frontman Will Gould audibly relishes the space the track gives him, delivering memorable lines such as “In a gin-and-tonic trance, we know sobriety won’t teach the kids to dance” with great panache. Now the band build towards a bold and brave return with their second album ‘Sex, Death & The Infinite Void’ (out May 29th) by sharing the new single ‘CYANIDE.’ The track finds the band stirring their sonic palette, filtering elements of theatrical ‘70s glam-rock with some American flair and the dynamic punk energy for which they’re renowned.
